Spain and Uruguay will go head-to-head on Friday in a crucial Group H finale at the 2026 World Cup, with both teams aiming to secure their place in the knockout rounds.

La Roja currently sit top of the group with four points after two matches. Luis de la Fuente’s side began their campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw against Cape Verde but responded in impressive fashion with a dominant 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia.

Spain will qualify as group winners if they defeat Uruguay, while a draw could also be enough depending on Cape Verde’s result against Saudi Arabia.

Uruguay enter the match in second position with two points after consecutive draws against Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde. Marcelo Bielsa’s team showed attacking quality in their 2-2 draw against Cape Verde but have struggled for consistency during the tournament.

The Sky Blues must defeat Spain to guarantee top spot, although other results could still influence their final position. Uruguay have a strong World Cup history, having lifted the trophy in 1930 and 1950, but they exited at the group stage in 2022.

Team News

Uruguay will be without Ronald Araujo and Giorgian de Arrascaeta due to calf injuries. Darwin Nunez could return to the starting lineup, replacing Federico Vinas in attack.

Agustin Canobbio and Maxi Araujo are expected to keep their places after strong performances against Cape Verde.

Spain could again be without Victor Munoz, but Lamine Yamal is expected to start after featuring against Saudi Arabia. Nico Williams may also earn a starting role after two substitute appearances.

Dani Olmo impressed in midfield and should retain his place, while Oyarzabal is expected to lead the attack after his two-goal performance last time out.
