Softfootball can confirm Two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas has chosen to join Women’s Super League side London City Lionesses.

The Barcelona legend, who left the club after 14 years in May, is now expected to continue her career in England after opting for London City Lionesses ahead of Boston Legacy in the United States.

Prior to this, Real Madrid Femenino are set to complete one of the most exciting moves in women’s football after reaching an agreement to sign highly rated Swedish forward Felicia Schröder.

Putellas had been in negotiations with Boston until yesterday and only made her final decision this morning. The 32-year-old preferred to remain in Europe and compete in what she considers to be the strongest women’s league in the world.

She was also attracted by the ambitious long-term project at London City Lionesses and the opportunity to help prove that an independent women’s-only football club can achieve sustained success and profitability.

Although the club remain confident of completing the transfer, there is no final agreement in place yet.
