The controversy surrounding AFCON 2025 has taken another dramatic turn, with the Senegalese Football Federation officially appealing the decision that awarded the title to Morocco national football team.
The dispute stems from a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board on March 18, which ruled that the Senegal national football team had forfeited the final.
As a result, Morocco were awarded a 3–0 victory and officially crowned champions, 57 days after the match.
Softfootball noted The ruling followed Senegal’s decision to walk off the pitch during a chaotic final in Morocco, reportedly due to disputes over officiating. Initially, Senegal had been celebrated as champions, which would have marked their second AFCON title after their 2021 triumph.

According to Fabrizio Romano via his Official X handle, the appeal has been registered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on March 25, 2026. Senegal are seeking to overturn the ruling and be reinstated as the rightful winners of AFCON 2025.
Romano posted:
OFFICIAL: CAS confirms Senegalese Football Federation has appealed the decision to call Morocco as winners of the AFCON 2025, asking to restore Senegal as the original winners. Appeal registered by CAS on 25 March 2026 “to set aside the CAF decision and declares the FSF winners of AFCON”.
With the case now heading to CAS, the final outcome of AFCON 2025 remains uncertain, as African football awaits a decisive legal resolution.
