Federico Chiesa has withdrawn from the Italy national football team squad after failing to pass medical checks ahead of their upcoming fixtures, Softfootball confirms.
The injury also follows a difficult period at club level, with Liverpool recently suffering a 2–1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, adding to their inconsistent season.
The development was confirmed by Fabrizio Romano via his x handle, who revealed that the Liverpool FC forward is not fit to play.
Fabrizio confirmed:
Federico Chiesa has withdrawn from Italy squad after medical checks confirmed he isn’t fit to play. In agreement with his club, the Liverpool forward has left the camp and Bologna striker Cambiaghi replaces Federico.

Following discussions with his club, Chiesa has now left the national team camp. In his place, Nicolò Cambiaghi of Bologna FC has been called up to reinforce the squad.
Chiesa’s withdrawal comes as a major setback for Italy, especially with a crucial World Cup play-off semi-final against Northern Ireland national football team scheduled for later this week. The winger had only recently returned to the national setup, receiving his first call-up since Euro 2024.
Ealier this month Juventus even tried to eye the possibility of reuniting with former player, Federico Chiesa in the January transfer
Reports indicate that Chiesa had already arrived at the training base in Florence but was forced to leave before the team’s first session after medical assessments confirmed his condition.
