One fan base that stands out for its resilience is Chelsea’s, known for its never-say-never attitude. Softfootball has maintained that Chelsea are unlikely to mount a comeback against PSG on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, yet many supporters remain optimistic despite recent results.

Chelsea suffered a heavy 5:2 defeat to PSG in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 and followed that with a 1:0 loss to Newcastle, further complicating their push for a top-four finish.

The Blues will now face PSG at Stamford Bridge, having lost their last two matches, while manager Liam Rosenior continues to face criticism. His side has conceded in eight consecutive Premier League games without keeping a clean sheet, raising serious concerns about defensive stability.

Despite this, Chelsea fans continue to believe in the possibility of a comeback. Their optimism draws comparisons to Barcelona’s Copa del Rey tie, where they lost 4:0 in the first leg but responded with a 3:0 win in the second leg against Atletico Madrid. Although Barcelona did not qualify, it demonstrated how determination and the right approach can shift momentum.

In football, unexpected results are always possible. However, the key issue for Chelsea remains their defence. While the team has the attacking quality to score goals, the question remains whether they can prevent PSG from scoring.

Softfootball has consistently highlighted Chelsea’s defensive line as a major weakness. With players such as Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella, the backline has struggled to provide stability.

This defensive concern is central to why many pundits doubt Chelsea’s chances of a comeback. Ultimately, their ability to contain PSG will determine whether their supporters’ optimism can be rewarded.
