Argentine giants River Plate are reportedly interested in signing striker Giovanni Simeone during the upcoming summer transfer window, Softfootball reports.

According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano via his x handle, the club are monitoring the situation closely as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of next season.

Romano said:

River Plate are interested in Gio Simeone as target for the summer transfer window. He’s scored 7 goals plus one assist in a difficult season for Torino and new coach Coudet see Cholito as a top priority.

As River plate plans to strengthen their squad, SSC Napoli have also activated a €44 million buy clause to sign Rasmus Højlund permanently from Manchester United. Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna reportedly confirmed that the Danish striker remains part of the club’s long-term project, regardless of whether they qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

Currently playing for Torino FC, Simeone has scored seven goals and provided one assist in what has been a difficult campaign for the Italian side. Despite the team’s struggles, the Argentine forward’s work rate and finishing ability have continued to attract attention.

However, Softfootball gathered that River Plate could face complications in their pursuit of the striker. New Torino head coach Eduardo Coudet reportedly views Simeone, popularly known as “Cholito,” as a top priority and an important part of his plans moving forward.

Meanwhile, former England defender Ashley Cole has been appointed head coach of Cesena FC after beginning his coaching journey with Chelsea FC and later working with Everton FC.
