Manchester City are planning to strengthen their midfield during the upcoming summer transfer window regardless of how the current season ends.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano via his x handle, the club remain determined to add a new midfielder to Pep Guardiola’s squad. This comes as speculation surrounding a potential move for Erling Haaland to FC Barcelona was recently dismissed by his agent Rafaela Pimenta.

Romano stated:

Manchester City will sign a new midfielder for sure… and mantain Elliott Anderson among top targets for summer window. Nothing advanced yet but Anderson is among top 2/3 names on #MCFC list for new midfielder. Man United are also interested.

Manchester City’s recruitment plans have intensified following their difficult night in the UEFA Champions League, where they suffered a heavy 3–0 defeat to Real Madrid. Guardiola’s side struggled to match Madrid’s clinical finishing, leaving their chances of progressing in the competition in serious doubt.

Softfootball understands that Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest has emerged as one of the leading midfield targets for City. Sources indicate that the 23-year-old is currently among the top two or three options being considered by Guardiola’s team.

At this stage, Manchester City have not yet opened formal talks with Nottingham Forest or the player’s representatives, but the club is expected to begin exploring a possible deal in the coming weeks.

Anderson is also attracting interest from Manchester United, although earlier reports suggest that Manchester City may be capable of offering a more competitive financial package should both clubs pursue the midfielder during the summer transfer window.
