The French Football Federation is preparing to complete all formalities to appoint Zinedine Zidane as the new France national team head coach once the 2026 FIFA World Cup comes to an end.

Zidane has remained fully committed to the opportunity, reportedly rejecting all other managerial proposals over the past eight months as he waited for the chance to lead Les Bleus.

Softfootball reported back in March that Zidane was widely expected to succeed Didier Deschamps following the conclusion of the tournament, and the process is now entering its final stages.

The expected managerial change comes after France’s World Cup campaign ended with a 2-0 semi-final defeat to Spain. Following the match, Deschamps publicly questioned the standard of officiating, asking whether the referee possessed the required level to manage a World Cup semi-final.

With the tournament nearing its conclusion, Zidane is now poised to begin a new era for the French national team, taking charge ahead of the next international cycle.
