West Ham United have opened discussions over a move for Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi as they look to strengthen their attack before the January transfer window closes.
Injuries to Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Niclas Fullkrug have left the Hammers short of options, making the Nigerian forward one of their priority targets.
The London club are reportedly exploring an initial loan deal until the end of the season, although a permanent transfer has also been discussed.
Nottingham Forest are believed to value Awoniyi at around £20 million and would prefer to sign a replacement before allowing the striker to leave.
Awoniyi has found playing time limited this season, largely serving as backup to the in-form Chris Wood after recovering from injury.
Despite that, the 27-year-old recently scored his first Premier League goal of the campaign in Forest’s 3-0 victory over Wolves. Softfootball understands West Ham remain keen to reach an agreement if conditions become favourable.
Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days, with West Ham hoping to add more firepower as they push for a stronger finish to the season.
