Vítor Pereira has urged Nottingham Forest to remain focused ahead of their upcoming clash against AFC Bournemouth despite admitting the squad feels slightly more relaxed following recent pressure-filled fixtures.

In his pre-match press conference shared on the club’s official X handle, Pereira explained that while the atmosphere around the team is calmer, Forest cannot afford to fully relax because Bournemouth remain one of the toughest and most intense teams to face in the Premier League.

Reflecting on Nottingham Forest’s recent 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford, Pereira admitted his side did not produce their best performance.

The Portuguese coach stated that Forest attempted to chase points emotionally but ultimately lost tactical balance during key moments of the game. According to Pereira, the players competed with their hearts but forgot to also play with their minds.

In his words:

Tactically, not our best game, but in the end, the spirit was there. We tried to get points from the game, but we lost a bit of tactical balance. We play a lot with our hearts and we forget to play with their minds.

Pereira once again addressed the controversial refereeing decision that influenced the outcome of the match, maintaining the same opinion he previously expressed after the defeat ended Forest’s unbeaten Premier League run.

Softfootball understands that while Pereira accepted the referee’s authority, acknowledging that mistakes happen in football, he insisted the handball decision was unfair and proved decisive in determining the result. He explained that just as coaches learn from mistakes, referees must also improve through experience.

No, in the end I have exactly the same opinion that I transmitted to the referee. It was a decision I understand the mistakes because I do mistakes in my decisions, but in the end was a mistake that decide the game and they decide the game that’s what I said to him.I accept the decision because I I do mistakes and we do mistakes everyone but in the end it was a mistake that decides the game. Was not fair because I like to see a fair photo.

The Forest manager went ahead to praise Bournemouth’s resilience and intensity, describing them as a fantastic and very difficult side to beat due to their relentless pressing and fast style of play. He warned that his team must be fully prepared physically and mentally because Bournemouth rarely allow opponents time to settle or recover during matches.

Discussing plans beyond the season, Pereira revealed he intends to take a short three-day holiday before returning for meetings regarding squad planning and preparations for next season, after which he will travel to Portugal to spend time with family and friends.

Despite suggesting minor reinforcements may still be needed, Pereira expressed confidence in the current squad, praising the players for their humility, cooperation, and commitment throughout the campaign.
