Bayer Leverkusen fans are hoping for good news this weekend, but star striker Victor Boniface looks highly unlikely to play against Heidenheim in the Bundesliga.
According to research gathered by Softfootball, the Nigerian forward picked up a thigh injury during his recent national team duty. He played in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on Monday in Uyo.

Boniface started the match but had to leave the pitch late in the game, with Umar Sadiq coming on to replace him. Things look a bit worrying since he completely skipped team training on Thursday while his teammates prepared.
This is a tough break for the defending champions. The former Bodo Glimt star already missed a huge part of last season dealing with an adductor issue. It is still unclear if he is looking at another long stay on the medical table.
When he is actually fit, he has been fantastic for the team, scoring eight goals in just fifteen appearances across all competitions this season. Xabi Alonso will definitely miss his top scorer if he cannot recover in time for the weekend fixture.
