Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has identified Chelsea, rather than Arsenal or Manchester City, as the club’s most serious challenger in this season’s Premier League title race.
Liverpool currently sit four points clear of Chelsea, though with a game in hand, following Chelsea’s dramatic 4-3 comeback win over Tottenham while Liverpool’s own fixture against Everton was postponed.
Softfootball understands Van Dijk shared his assessment of the title race while speaking to the Daily Mail. He said:
I don’t think they are under the radar. Obviously with the squad they have and the players they have, the players that can come off the bench.
Van Dijk acknowledged Chelsea’s relative inexperience compared to other title contenders, but insisted their quality more than makes up for it. He added:
Obviously we can talk about inexperience maybe but they have the quality, they have the players to make it difficult for any team and that is what they have been doing so they are definitely up there.
