Tunisia’s 2026 World Cup campaign has come to a disappointing end, as the Carthage Eagles were eliminated after a crushing 4–0 defeat to Japan in what was the 1,000th match in World Cup history. Despite having two different managers in two games, Tunisia were unable to recover from their disastrous start.

Softfootball gathered that Tunisia sacked Sabri Lamouchi after A 5–1 defeat to Sweden, appointing Hervé Renard as their seventh manager since the qualifiers began.

Hervé Renard was dramatically appointed on 16 June 2026, right in the middle of the group stage. He replaced Lamouchi, who became the first manager in World Cup history to be fired after just one match.

Even with the experienced Renard stepping in, Tunisia could not turn their fortunes around. Japan dominated from start to finish, sealing Tunisia’s fate and confirming their exit from the tournament.
