Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s chances of winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Nigeria were drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania, with the three-time African champions set to face strong opposition in the group stage.
Softfootball learnt that Troost-Ekong stressed that the Super Eagles will approach every game with the respect it deserves, insisting there are no easy matches in African football.
Ekong said:
AFCON 2025 draw is now over, very exciting to see the groups. Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania. Three teams that need to be respected.
I think we have the experience now on how to handle situations like this. There are no easy games again in Africa. That’s common knowledge now.However, I believe we have what it takes to come out of this group and this time go all the way. We learnt so much last year from the AFCON in Abidjan.
This time, we will be more ready and work hard throughout the year to make sure everyone is fit and ready.
We are looking forward to playing under the new coach. It’s an exciting year ahead, and I’m very happy with the AFCON draw.
The Super Eagles will begin their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tanzania at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Fès on December 23.
Eric Chelle’s men will then face Tunisia four days later before rounding off their group-stage campaign against Uganda on December 30, with all three matches scheduled to take place in Fès.
