England manager Thomas Tuchel has backed Jude Bellingham to become the Three Lions’ permanent captain in the future after the Real Madrid midfielder once again wore the armband during England’s victory over Czech Republic.
Bellingham came on for Harry Kane during the 2-0 Nations League win in Prague and took over the captaincy from England’s regular skipper. It was the second time in four days that the Real Madrid star had finished a game wearing the armband.
Asked whether Bellingham could eventually become England’s permanent captain, Tuchel said:
If he was the captain at the end vs Czech Republic, he can be a permanent captain one day.
Softfootball reports that Tuchel’s comments underline the growing leadership role Bellingham is taking within the England setup. The midfielder has already captained the side previously and is increasingly being trusted with greater responsibility at international level.
His leadership credentials have also been supported by his performances for Real Madrid, where Bellingham enjoyed an impressive start to the La Liga campaign.
The England international registered six goal contributions in his first five La Liga games for Real Madrid, highlighting his influence in both scoring and creating goals. His performances have continued to make him an important figure for the Spanish giants.
Bellingham’s ability to contribute in the final third while also operating as a midfielder has made him one of Real Madrid’s key players.
With Harry Kane still leading England, Bellingham’s latest captaincy opportunity offers another indication of the role Tuchel sees him playing in the future.
For now, the 23-year-old remains focused on delivering for both club and country, with his performances and growing leadership responsibilities putting him firmly among England’s important figures.
