Inter Milan forward Mehdi Taremi is set to miss the Club World Cup after becoming stranded in Iran amid the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel.
Softfootball reports that the Iranian international was unable to take his scheduled flight from Tehran after flights from Iranian airports were grounded following military exchanges between the two countries.
Taremi had been expected to travel to the United States and join Inter’s squad for the expanded tournament. However, the disruption to air travel prevented him from reaching his teammates in time.
The 32-year-old was expected to miss Inter’s opening match against Monterrey, while reports suggested he could remain unavailable for the rest of the competition regardless of when Iranian airspace reopens.
Taremi joined Inter from Porto in 2024 and has since added experience to the Italian club’s attacking options. His absence represents another setback for a team looking to recover from its heavy Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Inter are entering the Club World Cup with ambitions of competing for the inaugural expanded title, but they will now have to manage without one of their experienced forwards. His absence leaves Inter with fewer attacking options.
