Sterling Linked With Bayer Leverkusen Amid Chelsea Exit Talks

Raheem Sterling’s future at Chelsea remains uncertain, with reports suggesting the winger could be heading for a fresh challenge in Europe.

The 30-year-old has returned to pre-season training at Cobham, yet there’s little indication that he features in new head coach Enzo Maresca’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

Sterling, who spent last season on loan at Arsenal, endured a frustrating stint in North London. Despite making 23 appearances across the Premier League and Champions League, the majority came from the bench, and he registered just four assists in total.

Now, a familiar face from his Premier League past could offer him a way out. Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, recently appointed as head coach of Bayer Leverkusen, is said to be keeping tabs on Sterling’s situation.

Sources close to Softfootball reveal that Leverkusen are considering a move, with Chelsea reportedly open to offers in the region of £20 million.

Leverkusen have already experienced significant changes since Xabi Alonso’s departure to Real Madrid. Key players like Florian Wirtz, Jonathan Tah, and Jeremie Frimpong have all exited the club, prompting Ten Hag to reinforce his squad carefully.

The Dutchman is said to be wary of losing further experienced heads and views Sterling as a valuable addition who could bring maturity and attacking depth.

A move abroad may appeal to Sterling, who has spent his entire professional career in the English top flight. A less intense media spotlight and a fresh environment could provide the reset he needs to reignite his form.

Sterling is also attracting interest from Italy. According to English football journalist Ben Jacobs, Serie A giants Juventus are monitoring the winger and may consider a swoop of their own. However, financial constraints could limit their ability to match Chelsea’s valuation.

Ben Jacobs shared via his official X account:

“Raheem Sterling is drawing interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus.

“Sterling is two weeks back into pre-season training and working on the basis Chelsea will present him with options.

“Chelsea willing to sanction an exit for £20m.”

Chelsea have been intentional about how they do their transfer business, and with two years left on his contract, Chelsea may consider a loan deal if a permanent move proves difficult. Offloading one of their top earners could be just as crucial as securing a transfer fee.

As the transfer window continues to heat up, Sterling’s future will be one to watch especially with Ten Hag and Juventus both reportedly circling.
