Fresh uncertainty has emerged around the future of Julián Álvarez after transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed on his official X handle that there are currently no active discussions over a new contract at Atlético Madrid.
Romano’s post:
No active talks are taking place for Julián Álvarez new deal at this stage.
Simeone: “His future? He’s old enough to know what he wants to do and I imagine he has already made his decision”.
Barça, PSG and Premier League clubs are still on it.

Softfootball reported Back in April 2026, Álvarez attempted to calm speculation by insisting his focus remained on Atlético despite reports that Barcelona had explored a possible deal. Atlético’s position has consistently been that they are not looking to sell.
The situation gained further attention following comments from Atlético manager Diego Simeone, who suggested the decision may already rest entirely with the player.
Speaking on the forward’s future, Simeone indicated that Álvarez is experienced enough to decide his next move and hinted he believes the Argentine may already know what he wants.

Interest in the striker remains strong across Europe, with FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain F.C. and several Premier League clubs continuing to monitor developments.
Should Barcelona fail to secure Álvarez, reports continue to link the Catalan club with Victor Osimhen, although debate remains around whether the financial package required would fit the club’s long-term plans.
