Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has urged the club not to entertain any offers for Alexander Isak, warning that losing the Sweden international could seriously damage their hopes of finishing in the top four this season.

Isak has been strongly linked with both Arsenal and Barcelona ahead of the January transfer window.

Softfootball gathered that Shearer addressed the speculation directly during an appearance on Betfair, making his position on any potential sale unmistakably clear.

Reacting to reports Newcastle could accept £115m for the striker, Shearer said:

For me, it’s a no. Unless they have a like-for-like, world class replacement ready to come in then it would be crazy to sell him in January and I don’t think they will. It’s not a viable option.

He also touched on Newcastle’s reported interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, and reflected on the club’s difficult recent form.

Newcastle are having an up and down season, the international break came at the wrong time because they had a bit of momentum,

he added.
