Sevilla defender Kike Salas has been detained and later released by Spanish police as part of an investigation into alleged illegal betting activities.
The 22-year-old is suspected of deliberately receiving yellow cards during several La Liga matches in the 2023/24 season to influence betting outcomes, although no charges have been announced.
Authorities reportedly questioned the Spanish defender after training before releasing him as investigations continue. Softfootball understands Salas could face serious legal consequences if prosecutors gather enough evidence to proceed with a formal fraud case.

According to reports, suspicion grew after Salas collected seven yellow cards in the final nine matches of last season. Sevilla have confirmed they are gathering information on the matter, while La Liga has also responded, saying:
Every year, LaLiga provides players with compulsory integrity workshops, in which they are explained and informed about these issues.
The investigation remains ongoing, and Salas continues to deny any wrongdoing. If the case eventually reaches court and results in a conviction, the defender could face a prison sentence of up to three years under Spanish law.
