The defeat leaves Rwanda with everything to play for heading into their final Group D fixture against the already-qualified Super Eagles, scheduled for Monday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
To stand any chance of reaching the AFCON finals in Morocco, Rwanda must defeat Nigeria and hope Benin Republic lose away to Libya in the other group fixture.
Nigeria have already secured qualification for the tournament and are guaranteed to finish top of Group D, regardless of the outcome in Uyo.
Although the Super Eagles have sealed first place, Rwanda will be hoping the hosts take their foot off the pedal as they chase a historic place at next year’s continental showpiece.
Benin Republic and Libya also remain in contention for the group’s second qualification ticket, setting up a dramatic final round of fixtures.
With qualification still hanging in the balance, Rwanda know only victory will keep their hopes alive, while they must also rely on events elsewhere to go in their favour.
