Softfootball gathered that Ola Aina is out of Nigeria’s squad for their final 2025 AFCON qualifier against Rwanda.

The Nottingham Forest defender picked up a minor knock during Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic and has since been released back to his club to continue his recovery.

The 27-year-old started that match at right-back before being withdrawn for Bright Osayi-Samuel with seven minutes remaining, as Nigeria pushed for a winner that never came.

His exit doesn’t come at a cost to Nigeria’s tournament hopes, he Super Eagles have already secured their place at the 2025 AFCON finals in Morocco with a game to spare.

That means Monday’s matchday six clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo carries little weight in the standings.

For head coach Augustine Eguavoen, it’s more a chance to fine-tune the squad than a must-win fixture before the real business begins in Morocco.
