Ruben Amorim has left his role as Manchester United manager with immediate effect and former player Darren Fletcher will serve in interim capacity, Softfootball reports.
The Portuguese led Manchester United to a 1-1 draw against Leeds United in his final match as manager of the club. After a goalless first half, Brenden Aaronson gave the home side the lead but summer signing Matheus Cunha equalised for Manchester United.

In a surprise announcement this morning the club shared via its official X handle the news that the Portuguese will be leaving the club. The statement read:
Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United. Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May. With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish. The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future. Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.

It is obviously that this action was not planned before now because just yesterday, Amorim was expecting Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount to return ahead of the Burnley Match on Wednesday.
Last season, Ruben Amorim led Manchester United to a 15th place finish on the premier league table and has been much better this season and the team is currently sixth with 31 points so far after 20 matches so far.
