Barcelona will face Alaves in the Match-Day 14 of LaLiga without Ronald Araujo but midfield maestro Pedri returns for the showdown, Softfootball reports.

Barcelona hammered Athletic Bilbao 4-0 on their return to the newly redeveloped Camp Nou which took them to just one point behind league leaders Real Madrid after the Los Blancos were held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man Elche.

Alaves lost their last Laliga match 1-0 at home to Celta Vigo and are currently placed 14th with 15 points after 13 matches so far this season. Alaves took inspiration from the bible story of David and Goliath as they posted via their official X handle ahead of the match against Barcelona. It read:

Head-to-Head

In 49 previous matches against Alaves, Barcelona have won 35 of the games, including a 1-0 victory in their last meeting. Alaves have actually lost each of their last five La Liga matches against Barcelona, last avoiding defeat in this fixture in October 2021. However, Alaves have managed seven wins against Barcelona while seven matches have ended in draws.

Star Player

Lamine Yamal is still the star man for Barcelona despite his injury worries this season. He is back and ready for the reminder of the campaign as the Catalan giants look to retain their title. The Spaniard did not find much joy in midweek as Chelsea thrashed Barcelona 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Match-Day 5 of the UEFA Champions League.

Alaves has no standout player as they operate as a unit and try to stay defensively solid. They are not a team with plenty attacking talents, so their strongest point is the defense. It will be a tough task stopping Barcelona stars from scoring in this fixture.

Team News

Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Gavi are missing for Barcelona due to injury problems. Ronald Araujo also joins the injury list but Pedri returns for the first time since October.

Marcus Rashford likely to be selected ahead of Robert Lewandowski, while Eric Garcia should drop into the middle of the defence to replace the injured Ronald Araujo, who was sent off on a disappointing night against Chelsea.

Barcelona posted on their official X handle Pedri’s return to training. Check below.

Fermin Lopez is out with a muscular issue, meaning that Dani Olmo could start in the number 10 role.

For Alaves, Facundo Garces is serving a lengthy suspension, while Nikola Maras is a long-term absentee due to a serious knee injury.

Calebe is doubtful after missing out against Celta Vigo due to a knock, with a decision on the 25-year-old potentially being made later today.

Carlos Vicente has been Alaves’ best attacking player this season, scoring five times and registering two assists in 14 appearances, and the 26-year-old will be expected to produce the goals for the team against Barcelona.

Barcelona Probable XI
