Reece James is growing into a great leader, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca claims

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca has hailed club captain Reece James for his leadership skills and sees the England international growing into a great one, Softfootball reports.

James scored a freekick in the Match-Day 18 of the Premier League when Chelsea drew 2-2 against Newcastle at Saint James’ Park. The Magpies led 2-0 during that encounter courtesy goals from Nick Woltemade. But James freekick sparked a comeback which was completed by Joao Pedro.

Football expert, Fabrizio Romano shared an interview via his official X handle where Maresca spoke glowingly about James. He said:

Reece is growing in terms of leadership, he is playing more and more minutes. This is the reason why we are happy because he can be fit and healthy. He is one of the main players for different reasons. He’s from our house, he’s the captain.

Reece James was nominated for Premier League player of the week following his performance against Newcastle where he shined leading the Blues to remarkable fightback.

He was plagued by injuries for majority of last season by was around for the UEFA Conference League win and the FIFA Club World Cup win where they beat Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the final of the tournament.

Chelsea’s main target this season is qualifying for the UEFA Champions League at the end of the season and they are currently in fourth with 29 points and will be in action next on Aston Villa on Saturday.
