Real Madrid star Alexander-Arnold diagnosed with muscle injury

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been diagnosed with a muscle injury, Real Madrid have announced after their 2-1 victory over Olympique de Marseille, Softfootball reports.

The former Liverpool right back went off injured during the UEFA Champions League encounter in the ninth minute as he was replaced by Dani Carvajal. The Los Blancos fell behind after former Manchester United winger Mason Greenwood robbed Arda Güler of the ball and played in Timothy Weah, who finished with aplomb. Real Madrid made a remarkable comeback with both goals coming from Kylian Mbappé via penalties.

Real Madrid announced the news on their official media. The statement read:

Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. Further updates will follow.

Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid from Liverpool this summer, initially on a free transfer but the Los Blancos had to pay 10 million Euros to the Reds, so the player can participate in the Club World Cup. The England defender eventually had his Real Madrid debut at the FIFA competition but the Los Blancos were eliminated in the semifinal stage by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Alexander-Arnold is in direct competition for places with Real Madrid Captain Dani Carvajal and he will be devastated with the latest injury as it would slow his chances down of claiming the right spot position for Xabi Alonso’s men.
