Softfootball can confirm that Real Madrid have been dealt a massive blow after reports emerged that Ferland Mendy could be sidelined for up to a year following a serious new injury.

According to Fabrizio Romano via his official X account, the club are now expecting Mendy to undergo surgery before a final recovery timeline is confirmed, with hopes the defender can avoid thoughts of premature retirement after another devastating setback.

The injury occurred during Real Madrid’s recent victory over Espanyol, where Mendy was forced off just 14 minutes into the match after suffering pain during a sprint. Medical tests later confirmed a severe rupture of the proximal tendon in his right quadriceps, an injury serious enough to require surgery.

The situation has further intensified concerns inside the Madrid camp because Kylian Mbappe is also unavailable after sustaining a semitendinosus muscle injury in his left leg during the recent draw against Real Betis. Losing two key French stars at such a crucial stage of the season has added significant pressure on the squad.

Off the pitch, reports also suggest tensions are rising within the dressing room. Midfielder Dani Ceballos was reportedly involved in a heated face-to-face confrontation with coach Alvaro Arbeloa at the training ground.

The situation escalated further when Ceballos allegedly unfollowed Arbeloa on social media, fueling speculation of unrest within the club.

These developments come during a difficult stretch for Real Madrid, with injuries, internal tensions, and mounting pressure threatening to derail their ambitions in the closing stages of the campaign.
