Pedro Neto Speaks on Chelsea’s Mentality: “Patience Paid Off”

3 Min Read

Pedro Neto believes Chelsea’s calm and patient approach in their 3–0 English Premier League win over Wolves could be the key to more consistent results going forward.

Softfootball reports that Enzo Maresca’s men had to work hard at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening, breaking down a stubborn Wolves side that defended deep for long spells before finally finding their rhythm in the second half. Goals from Malo Gusto, his first for the club, Joao Pedro, and Neto himself sealed a deserved win for the Blues.

Reflecting on the game against his former team, as revealed by Chelsea via their official X account, the Portuguese winger admitted it was far from easy.
They posted:

Neto said:

Premier League games are always difficult, whether you’re playing the team in first or the team in last,’ the Portugal international said following the win over his former side. I thought we played an intelligent game to be honest. In the first half, it was hard to break them down but that’s always the case when a team plays with 10 players behind the ball.

However, we were patient, we did a good job and we got our rewards in the end. Three goals, three points and we are all very happy. Wolves were very compact, and it was difficult for us. I think they played in this way because they know we are very good in the offensive areas, but we stayed patient and I think we deserved the win in the end.

Neto wrapped up the win with Chelsea’s third goal, finishing off a brilliant move started by Alejandro Garnacho, who also assisted Gusto’s opener earlier in the game. The Portuguese forward couldn’t hide his admiration for the young Argentine, who has been in fine form lately, also commending the Argentine for his performance, just like Enzo Maresca showered him with praise in an earlier report.

Neto revealed:

I’m really pleased for Garna and he did a great job for us.

He’s been working really hard and he’s getting his chance in the team and he’s taking it right. Two assists in this game, a goal the other night in the Champions League and we’re really happy with him.

He’s settling in well and you can see he is working really hard for the team both on and off the ball, he’s doing a really good job.

Chelsea’s performance against Wolves felt like a sign of growing maturity under Maresca, a team learning not just how to attack, but when. And for Neto, that patience could make all the difference in the long run.
