Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has declared his desire to reclaim his place as the Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper, softfootball reported.
Okoye was Nigeria’s number one goalkeeper at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, but he lost his place in the team after making a costly error in the Super Eagles’ Round of 16 defeat to Tunisia.

The 25-year-old was then left out of the national team for almost two years before eventually earning a recall.
Since his absence, Stanley Nwabali has established himself as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, especially after his impressive performances at the last Africa Cup of Nations.
However, Okoye has made it clear that he still wants to fight for the number one shirt. He admitted that Nwabali has set a high standard, but said he is ready to remain patient and continue working hard.
Speaking to Football Temple, Okoye explained that his focus is on giving his best in training and trying to impress the coaching staff whenever he gets the opportunity.
The Udinese shot stopper believes competition for places is part of football and is determined to prove himself again with the national team.
For Okoye, the target is clear: stay focused, keep improving, and work his way back into the Super Eagles starting position.
