Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has provided a positive update on Taiwo Awoniyi’s fitness ahead of their next Premier League fixture.
The Nigerian striker missed the recent defeat to Fulham after sustaining a broken nose during the FA Cup win over Exeter City. Softfootball reports that he was omitted from the squad due to strict concussion protocols.
Santo explained that while Awoniyi is feeling fine, the club had to wait for official clearance before including him in the matchday selection.
The manager emphasized the importance of adhering to safety regulations, ensuring that the player is fully fit and cleared by medical staff before returning to competitive action.
He stated:
We didn’t have the clearance from the Premier League about the concussion protocols, so he was not able to go in the squad. He is feeling fine, it is about making sure we follow the protocols. He was okay, but we have to respect the protocols.
The striker is now expected to be available for the upcoming game against Newcastle United, providing a boost to Forest’s attacking options.
His return will be crucial as the team looks to bounce back from their recent loss and continue their push for a strong finish in the league table.
