Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo remains confident that Taiwo Awoniyi will return to his best form and become an important player for the Premier League club.

The Nigeria international has found regular playing time difficult to secure this season, with Chris Wood currently preferred as Forest’s main striker.

Nuno believes Awoniyi has what it takes to regain his previous level and praised the forward’s hard work in training.

Speaking via the club’s official media, the Forest boss also highlighted the striker’s importance to the team and his history with the club. Nuno said:

He can absolutely get back to that previous level. He works very hard, and we are confident he will get back to that.

Softfootball reports that Awoniyi’s opportunities have been limited by Wood’s impressive form, but Nuno believes the Nigerian must remain ready whenever he is called upon.

The manager pointed to Awoniyi’s goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers as an example of the impact he can make from the bench.

Nuno also stressed the importance of fitness, confidence, playing time and mentality as Awoniyi works towards reclaiming a regular role.
