Nottingham Forest have bolstered their goalkeeping department with the signing of Scotland international Angus Gunn on a free transfer. The 29-year-old joins the club following the expiration of his contract with Norwich City at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Gunn, who began his professional career at Norwich before spending time at Manchester City and Southampton, returns to the Premier League setup with Forest after four seasons at Carrow Road. During his second stint with the Canaries, he made 114 appearances across all competitions.
According to reports from multiple outlets, including transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Gunn has agreed terms with Forest and will link up with Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
He revealed this via his official X account where he tweeted:
“Nottingham Forest agree deal to sign 29 year old goalkeeper Angus Gunn. Former Norwich GK joins #NFFC with immediate effect.”
Softfootball understands that the move comes as Forest look to reinforce their squad for domestic and European competition.
With former first-choice options Matt Turner and Wayne Hennessey both departing the City Ground earlier in the summer, Gunn is expected to provide experienced cover for current No.1 Matz Sels.
The Belgian keeper kept 15 clean sheets in 42 appearances last season and was instrumental in Forest’s push for Europe.
Gunn’s arrival follows a relatively measured transfer window for Forest. The club have already added Brazilian pair Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha from Botafogo, and secured the services of Dan Ndoye from Bologna in a £34.5 million deal, replacing Anthony Elanga.
Despite several outgoings including Danilo, Lewis O’Brien, Andrew Omobamidele, Ramon Sosa, and Matt Turner Forest are reported to have turned a profit on their transfer business.
With a Europa League campaign on the horizon following their seventh-place Premier League finish, Forest are quietly building a squad with depth and experience. Gunn’s addition offers assurance between the posts as the club embarks on a demanding new season.
