The Nigerian government has officially fulfilled its long-standing promise of housing rewards to members of the Super Eagles squad that won the silver medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire, Softfootball reports.
The Super Eagles, coached by José Peseiro, finished runners-up after a 2–1 defeat to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the AFCON final. Following that achievement, the Nigerian government, under the late President Muhammadu Buhari, approved the allocation of houses to players and officials of the team as part of their national rewards.
On Monday, December 22, 2025, the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu completed and approved the fulfillment of that promise, bringing relief and satisfaction to members of the 2023 Super Eagles squad.
Photos shared from the event show players and officials of the AFCON 2023 team receiving their housing rewards, marking the conclusion of a commitment that had been awaited for some time.

The move has been widely praised by football fans and stakeholders, who see it as a positive signal of government support for sports development and recognition of national service. For many, the gesture also serves as motivation for the current Super Eagles squad as they continue their campaign at AFCON 2025.
The fulfillment of the housing awards closes an important chapter for the AFCON 2023 heroes, whose efforts brought pride to Nigeria on the continental stage.
