Nigeria capped off a perfect group stage at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations by defeating Uganda 3-1 in Fes. The victory ensured the Super Eagles finished top of Group C with maximum points, becoming the only team in the tournament to win all three group matches.

With this result, Nigeria continues their impressive run after securing a 2-1 win over Tanzania and a thrilling 3-2 victory against Tunisia, as reported by SoftFootball. Uganda, meanwhile, were eliminated from the competition after their first AFCON finals appearance since 2019, ending their campaign with just one point.
The match started with Nigeria showing early dominance despite resting key players like Wilfred Ndidi and Semi Ajayi to avoid yellow card suspensions. Victor Osimhen caused problems for the Ugandan defence and set up Paul Onuachu, who opened the scoring in the 28th minute following a cutback from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

CAF Online shared a video of his teammates celebrating with hugs, jumps, and gestures on their official X account, capturing Nigerian pride in a vibrant Moroccan stadium as the 2.01 m striker leaps over defenders, smashing the ball into the net.

Uganda struggled to create chances before halftime, and their hopes of a comeback were further weakened as the game turned decisively in Nigeria’s favour in the second half after Uganda’s substitute goalkeeper Jamal Salim was sent off for handling outside the box.
Capitalising on the numerical advantage, Raphael Onyedika scored twice in quick succession, with the first in the 62nd minute through Alionzi’s legs following Chukwueze’s assist, and again in the 67th minute after a mazy run and precise cutback from Chukwueze. Onyedika’s brace effectively sealed the victory and showcased Nigeria’s knockout-stage credentials.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Uganda pulled one back in the 75th minute through Rogers Mato, who finished a well-placed through ball from Frank Okello. The goal provided a moment of pride but was insufficient to threaten Nigeria’s dominance.
The Cranes were eliminated, finishing bottom of Group C, while Nigeria ended with a perfect record of nine points and strong momentum heading into the round of 16.

Chelle’s tactical substitutions, including the late removal of birthday boy Victor Osimhen, demonstrated squad management and depth, while Ryan Alebiosu made his Nigeria debut at right-back.
With superb contributions from Chukwueze and Onyedika, Nigeria now prepares for the knockout stage confident in their form and fully aware of their potential.
