The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed its condolences to Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali following the passing of his mother, just weeks after the shot-stopper also lost his father.
Nwabali announced the heartbreaking news on New Year’s Day through an emotional post on social media, leaving fans and members of the football community saddened. Softfootball understands the Chippa United goalkeeper is enduring one of the most difficult periods of his personal life after suffering two devastating family losses in less than two months.
The 28-year-old first shared his grief by posting:
A very very crazy world indeed,
before later confirming the sad news with another message that read:
Rip mom, worst year of my life already.
The latest tragedy comes shortly after Nwabali lost his father in November 2024, just as he was preparing to represent Nigeria in the AFCON 2025 qualifying fixture against Rwanda in Uyo.
Reacting to the news, the NFF offered its support to the goalkeeper through an official message on social media.
The federation wrote:
Our heartfelt condolences to Stanley Nwabali on the loss of his mother. Stay strong, Stanley. Sending you strength and support during this difficult time. You are not alone; we are all with you.
The goalkeeper has received an outpouring of sympathy from teammates, supporters, and football lovers across Nigeria as he mourns the loss of both parents within such a short period.
