Softfootball reports that the Netherlands’ perfect start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign came to an end with a 1-1 draw against Poland at De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam.

Ronald Koeman’s side, who had opened Group G with wins over Finland and Malta, now sit level on seven points with Poland and Finland after three rounds of matches.

Despite the game being expected to be closely contested, the Oranje begin brightly and create a flurry of chances inside the opening 20 minutes. Tijjani Reijnders rattles the post with a deflected effort, while Łukasz Skorupski produces several sharp saves to deny Cody Gakpo and Denzel Dumfries.

The second half sees the Dutch continue to control possession but waste a series of opportunities to extend their advantage. Dumfries causes problems again on the right, Xavi Simons grazes the side netting, and Memphis remains heavily involved, but Poland’s defence holds firm.

The Netherlands were obviously disappointed, and their feeling of sadness was clear via the team’s official X account. They posted:

Poland, celebrating Piotr Zieliński’s 100th international appearance, struggle for long spells but carry a threat on the counter. Sebastian Szymański heads wide from Nicola Zalewski’s cross before the break, offering a reminder that the visitors remain in the contest.

With 15 minutes left, Jan Urban’s side punish the Dutch for their profligacy. Matty Cash pounces on a loose ball at the edge of the area and rifles a thunderous strike past Bart Verbruggen. A VAR check for offside confirms the goal, and Poland hold out under late pressure to claim a valuable point in their first away fixture under Urban.

For the Netherlands, the draw feels like two points dropped after a dominant display, while Poland leave Rotterdam with renewed belief, ending the Oranje’s winning streak and keeping Group G finely balanced.
