Real Madrid legend Pedja Mijatovic has advised his former club to stop publicly complaining about refereeing decisions following their recent defeat to Espanyol.
The Montenegrin star responded to the team’s open letter to the RFEF by emphasizing that officials are human and mistakes are inevitable regardless of technology. Softfootball reports that he believes such public actions are unnecessary and counterproductive.
Mijatovic argued that while some recent calls have harmed Madrid, there have been equally favorable decisions in past seasons that went unchallenged. He stressed that focusing on external factors distracts from performance and noted that every team benefits from officiating errors at some point during a campaign.
He explained his stance by stating:
Referees have the right to make mistakes, they are human beings and no matter how much technology can be applied, they are still human beings. If you add it all up, we have all complained at a certain time but when there is a ‘little favor’, we don’t complain, right? That has to be understood.
The former forward’s comments highlight the need for perspective and acceptance within elite football. His message serves as a reminder that consistency in criticism is rare and that energy is better spent on improving squad performance rather than debating unavoidable human elements of the game.
