France secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Belgium in a tightly contested Nations League clash, with Michael Olise scoring a late winner to settle the encounter.
Softfootball reports that France dominated possession throughout the game, controlling 65% of the ball and creating several opportunities. Belgium, however, remained competitive and defended resolutely for long periods, with goalkeeper Senne Lammens making five saves.
France came closest to breaking the deadlock before the interval when Désiré Doué saw an effort crash against the crossbar. Bradley Barcola also tested Lammens, while Kevin De Bruyne and Mika Godts had opportunities for Belgium.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 88th minute. Rayan Cherki provided the assist before Olise produced an outstanding individual finish from outside the box, beating Lammens with his left foot to give France the lead.
Belgium pushed forward late in search of an equaliser, but Maxence Lacroix and the French defence stood firm to protect the advantage. Mike Maignan also made a crucial save from Dodi Lukébakio earlier in the second half.
The victory continues France’s strong start to the Nations League campaign. Kylian Mbappé had also scored France’s winner against Türkiye in their opening match, with Michael Olise providing the assist in Zinedine Zidane’s first game as France coach.
