Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has warned that Guinea-Bissau should not be underestimated when Nigeria face the Djurtus in their AFCON 2027 qualifying match on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
Speaking at Monday’s pre-match press conference, Chelle stressed that the three-time African champions will take nothing for granted against a Guinea-Bissau side that secured an away victory over Tanzania in their opening qualifier.
The Super Eagles coach acknowledged the quality of the hosts and expects a difficult encounter in Bissau.
We respect them because they are a strong team. I have followed their progress over the years. They also won away in Tanzania on Friday and will be confident playing at home tomorrow.
“Our objective is to take the three points, and to do that, we must approach the game with a strong mentality. We have to be at our best to earn victory,
Chelle said.
There have been comments about the poor condition of the pitch, but Chelle refused to focus on the playing surface, insisting his team would adapt and make the best of the conditions.
The Super Eagles held their official training session at the match venue on Monday evening, with all 24 invited players taking part in the 65-minute workout despite a light shower of rain.
Nigeria’s schedule on Monday, September 28, 2026, included a pre-match press conference at 3:45 pm followed by an official training session at 4:00 pm at the September 24 National Stadium in Bissau.
The Super Eagles arrived in Guinea-Bissau following their 2-1 victory over Madagascar in Uyo and will be looking to continue their positive run when they take on the Djurtus.
