Lionel Messi featured for the full 90 minutes as Inter Miami began their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a goalless draw against African champions Al Ahly, Softfootball reports.

The Argentine superstar was closely involved in Inter Miami’s attacking efforts but could not produce the decisive moment as both teams settled for a point at Hard Rock Stadium.

Messi was expected to attract significant attention during the tournament, with Inter Miami carrying the responsibility of representing Major League Soccer against some of the strongest clubs from around the world.

Al Ahly, however, proved difficult opponents and created several opportunities of their own. The Egyptian side were particularly dangerous during periods when Inter Miami struggled to maintain possession. The MLS club also came close to breaking the deadlock, but neither side could convert its chances.

The result leaves the group delicately balanced as both teams look ahead to their remaining fixtures. Inter Miami will need to improve their attacking efficiency if they are to reach the knockout stage.

Messi remains the central figure in that effort, with the former Barcelona and Argentina captain expected to lead the team through the competition.
