Mbappé Headlines UEFA Champions League Team of the Week After Historic Four-Goal Performance

3 Min Read

UEFA has released its Champions League Team of the Week for Matchday 5, and unsurprisingly, Kylian Mbappé stands front and centre.

Softfootball understands that the Real Madrid superstar has also been named Player of the Week after his breathtaking four-goal display against Olympiacos.

A match that also saw him record the second-fastest hat-trick in Champions League history, completed in just 6 minutes and 42 seconds. It was one of those nights where everything Mbappé touched seemed to explode into goals.

The UEFA Technical Observer Group, responsible for selecting the standout performers, put together a squad reflecting both explosive attacking play and some seriously gritty defending across Europe; they revealed the list in a post made via their official X account.

They posted:

Vitinha earns a deserved spot after scoring his first career hat-trick in Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-1 win over Tottenham, a performance Spurs boss Thomas Frank summed up as astonishing.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also makes the cut after scoring twice for Marseille in their comeback victory over Newcastle, showing he still has that killer instinct in big moments.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Mark Flekken produced one of the best goalkeeping displays of the season with nine saves in a clean-sheet win over Manchester City. Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and PSV’s Jerry Schouten also earned places for their sharp, consistent defensive work.

UEFA’s Team of the Week includes players from 11 different clubs, showing just how widespread the standout performances were. From Declan Rice controlling midfield for Arsenal against Bayern to Copenhagen’s Robert tearing into defenders with six successful take-ons, every name on the team earned their place the hard way.

STARTING XI

Mark Flekken, Leverkusen

Anan Khalaili, Union SG

José María Giménez, Atleti
