Manchester United have confirmed that new signing Bryan Mbeumo will wear the club’s number 19 shirt, marking the next chapter in his career. It is a familiar one to him, the same number he wore at Brentford.

The Cameroonian was signed for a reported £70 million plus £7 million in add-ons. Mbeumo’s move to Old Trafford has now been sealed, with United assigning him the number 19 shirt, previously worn by players like Dwight Yorke and Marcus Rashford.

The number 19 has been vacant at Manchester United since Raphael Varane was released from his contract in June 2024. The former Brentford star’s arrival bolsters United’s attacking options, bringing pace, flair, and a proven goal-scoring pedigree to Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Softfootball recalls that the number 19 shirt was also assigned to the only other outfield player from Cameroon to represent the Red Devils, Eric Djemba-Djemba.

Mbeumo was the fourth fastest player in the Premier League last season, and scored 20 goals for Brentford.

He is excited to get started, telling club media:

“As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams; the team whose shirt I wore growing up.

“My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.”

Mbeumo completed his medical over the weekend and now, United have announced his arrival. The club have relayed in a statement:

“Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Bryan Mbeumo has joined the club, subject to registration. The Cameroon international has signed a contract until June 2030, with the option to extend for a further year.”

United are set to fly out to the USA for the club’s pre-season tour, and Mbeumo is now all booked in and ready to go.
