Manchester City eye Madrid fallout Rodrygo as Grealish replacement

Manchester City are weighing up a move for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo as Pep Guardiola looks to reshape his attacking options following multiple departures, Softfootball reports.

The deal is set to get thicker after Jack Grealish has moved to Everton on loan, and Manchester City is seeking to get a replacement for the English player.

Meanwhile, James McAtee has already left the Etihad for Nottingham Forest. The deal is likely to materialise, having seen that Rodrigo has fallen out of grace at the Santiago Bernabeu; he has scarcely gotten minutes of action since last season.

And Savinho is also set to move on as Tottenham is requesting the Brazilian. Those exits have opened the door for City to pursue a high-profile addition, with Rodrygo emerging as Guardiola’s preferred choice.

The 23-year-old Brazil international has been a key figure at Real Madrid since joining from Santos in 2019, winning La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, via his official X handle, City are interested in the Brazilian as a potential replacement ahead of the new season.

He wrote:

“Manchester City are considering move for Rodrygo after imminent exits.

Grealish gone, McAtee and Savinho can leave… and #MCFC see Rodrygo as dream target, Guardiola big fan.

Real Madrid will let him leave if player wants – asking around €100m.”

Although Liverpool were likely suitors until a recent switch, Manchester City are on the lookout for the player. Guardiola is said to be a long-time admirer of Rodrygo’s ability to influence big matches, with his performances in the Champions League particularly standing out.  Discussions are expected to develop quickly as City look to reinforce their squad before the window closes.
