Man City’s Vitor Reis Set to Join Girona on Loan After €35m Move From Palmeiras

Vitor Reis is on the move again, this time to Spain. The 19-year-old Brazilian defender is expected to travel to Girona on Wednesday, August 6, to complete his medical and sign a season-long loan deal, as per reports confirmed by multiple sources, including transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Softfootball understands that the agreement between Manchester City and Girona FC was reached in principle two days ago and has now been signed off by both clubs. The move is part of a strategic development plan orchestrated by the City Football Group (CFG), which owns both clubs.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, via his official X handle provided an update on Vitor Reis’ move to Girona, revealing fresh details on the transfer.

He wrote:

“Understand Vitor Reis travels to Spain tomorrow for medical tests and contract signing at Girona. Loan deal from Manchester City, verbally agreed as reported two days ago… and also signed now.”

The plan is for Reis to get regular first-team football in La Liga a move seen as crucial to his growth and his chances of making Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad.

Reis only joined Manchester City from Palmeiras earlier this year in January 2025, in a deal worth €35 million. Since arriving in England, he’s made four senior appearances, including a full 90-minute outing in the Club World Cup final a match City won.

Despite limited opportunities under Pep Guardiola, Reis is widely regarded as one of Brazil’s top defensive prospects. At just 19, the loan to Girona offers a valuable opportunity for him to adapt to European football in a competitive top-flight environment. Manchester City has their hands full in negotiating a new contract for Ballon d’or winner Rodri amidst interest from Real Madrid.

With Girona pushing to remain competitive in La Liga while developing youth talent, Reis is expected to slide straight into their defensive rotation.

Sources say both clubs, who enjoy a close relationship through CFG, have been in constant contact to finalize the move. Now, only formalities remain before he links up with Girona’s pre-season squad.

If everything proceeds as scheduled, Vitor Reis could be officially unveiled by Girona before the end of the week, marking another smart step forward in his young but promising career.
