Pep Guardiola speaking ahead of today’s Manchester derby reflected on his side’s dominance since his arrival in 2016, insisting City have consistently been the better team compared to Manchester United in English football.
The headline fixture of the Premier League’s return following the first international break of the season sees the two rivals collide at a time when both could really use a positive result after disappointing respective starts to the new campaign.
Softfootball understands that the recently de-throned Premier League champions of four successive seasons have a fight on their hands to return to their former dominance, and enter into a difficult run of fixtures with a handful of injury problems on their hands.

Man City have lost successive top flight fixtures and find themselves in the bottom half ahead of today’s match, while United got their first win of the season last time out when they beat Burnley.
According to a post on Fabrizio Romano Facebook page, Pep Guardiola speaking to the media ahead of today’s Manchester derby, stated that since his arrival in England, Manchester City have consistently been the better side compared to Manchester United. The post reads:
Pep Guardiola: Since I arrived here, Man City have always been BETTER than Man United.
City exploded out of the traps in the opening weekend of the season with a 4-0 victory over Wolves, but their performances in the subsequent two games left plenty to be desired. A 2-0 home defeat against Tottenham was followed by a shock 2-1 unravelling against Brighton and City find themselves playing catch-up to Liverpool already.
While United needed a last-gasp Bruno Fernandes penalty to see off newly-promoted Burnley at Old Trafford last time out for their first win that came after defeat by Arsenal, draw at Fulham and Carabao Cup humiliation by fourth-tier Grimsby.
Ruben Amorim will be desperately hoping that his side may now finally begin to turn a corner and deliver another day to remember at the Etihad after last season’s dramatic late turnaround.
Having picked up back-to-back defeats prior to the September break, City will be desperate to return to winning ways, but come back to a schedule that features Premier League meetings with rivals United and Arsenal, as well as a UEFA Champions League opener against Napoli. It is indeed a packed up fixtures for the Citizens.
As the debate over supremacy between the two Premier League giants continues, a positive result in this derby could serve as a crucial springboard for either side’s ambitions this season.
