Malick Thiaw is set to move to Newcastle United as he has agreed to a 4 year contract with the black and white. The German defender leaves AC Milan after three years.
Softfootball had been informed that the 23 year old defender is highly rated by Milan new boss, Max Allegri and will likely not be allowed to leave the San Siro. Although it seems the defender is keen on the move after having accepted Newcastle’s personal offer.

Reports in Italy have said Milan had rejected Newcastle United’s €30m offer but the Premier League are hoping they can convince Allegri and the Milan management with a good price.
Thiaw had joined Milan from Schalke 04 in 2022 after a 2 year spell with the German club where he won the Bundesliga II. Milan had reached agreement in principle with fellow Serie A side, for the defender but the deal broke down as Thiaw said no.
Milan and Como had agreed a fee of €25m for the Thiaw and were offering €4m as annual salary. The defender also had interest from Crystal Palace but nothing concrete followed. According to Sky Italy, the defender is prioritizing playing in a European competition which favours Newcastle as they will be playing in the UEFA Champions League.
Thiaw helped Milan win the 24/25 Super Coppa Italia and will be eager to win more top titles in Europe. He is still under contract till 2027 meaning Milan will not be in a rush to cash in on him. However, a right amount will test them.
The lanky defender has worn the Milan jersey 63 times with no goals to show for it.
Top journalist, Florian Plettenberg posted on his verified X handle about Thiaw and Newcastle agreement. He wrote:
“Newcastle have reached a full verbal agreement with Malick Thiaw on a contract until 2029! /@berger_pj
“Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing, but Massimiliano Allegri is keen to keep him. The latest offer stood at €30 million. Bayer 04 Leverkusen are monitoring the situation. #NUFC”
It is left to see if Newcastle will value the defender higher than what they have offered. Thiaw will join Emerson Royal to leave Milan this summer.
