Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has admitted Spurs lost control of Sunday’s Premier League clash after being overwhelmed by Brighton’s relentless attacking pressure.

Softfootball added that Tottenham looked on course for all three points after racing into a two-goal lead, only for Brighton to stage a remarkable comeback and claim a 3-2 victory. Maddison, who scored one of Spurs’ goals, acknowledged that his side failed to cope once the momentum shifted in the hosts’ favour.

The England international explained that while Brighton are a quality side, Tottenham should have managed the game better after conceding the first goal. He admitted the team struggled to withstand the pressure as wave after wave of attacks left them unable to regain control.

Maddison also revealed that the players had discussed the importance of avoiding complacency during the interval, but conceded their words counted for little because they failed to produce the required response on the pitch as Brighton completed an impressive turnaround.
