Mallorca opened their 2025-26 La Liga campaign with a 3-0 home defeat to Barcelona, before drawing 1-1 with Celta Vigo on August 23 to move off the mark for the new season. However, successive defeats have followed against Real Madrid and Espanyol, with one point from four matches, so it has been a tough start for the Pirates.

Jagoba Arrasate’s side need to put a win on the board as soon as possible, and the fact that Atletico were in Champions League action during the week could work in the home side’s favour here. Mallorca were 10th in Spain’s top flight last season, only four points off the European spots, but there have been no signs thus far that the team are capable of pushing for Europe this term.

The Pirates have won 18 of their previous 65 matches against Atletico, suffering 33 defeats in the process, and each of their last five contests have been won by the Red and Whites.

Manager Jagoba Arrasate could be without midfielder Javi Llabrés, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained in August. The Balearic Islanders have struggled defensively this season, conceding nine goals in four matches while managing to score just four.

Striker Vedat Muriqi has been a bright spot for Mallorca, scoring three goals already this campaign and providing the team’s main attacking threat. The Kosovo international will be crucial to their chances of securing a positive result against Diego Simeone’s side.

Mallorca Confirmed XI: Leo Román, Mateu Jaume, A. Raillo, Valjent, Kumbulla, Johan Mojica, Samu, Morlanes, S. Darder, Asano, Muriqi

Subs: Bergström, Oualet, Toni Lato, Mascarell, A. Sánchez, Abdon, Juan Virgil, Mateo Joseph, P. Torre, Mafeco, D. López, Domenech

Atletico Madrid enter this match with several injury concerns following their recent Champions League encounter with Liverpool. Key striker Julian Alvarez is doubtful with knee discomfort sustained during the Villarreal victory. Diego Simeone confirmed that Jose Maria Gimenez, Alex Baena, and Thiago Almada will all miss the trip to Palma due to muscle injuries.

The positive news for Los Colchoneros is that Robin Le Normand and Nicolas Gonzalez are fine and available. Antoine Griezmann remains a key figure in attack alongside Alexander Sorloth, who will likely lead the line if Alvarez is ruled out.

Atletico Madrid will be looking to forget their midweek heartbreak against Liverpool. Virgil van Dijk’s 92nd minute header condemned Atleti to defeat at Anfield. Ahead of this afternoon showdow, Diego Simeone side were seen heading to the stadium as seen on their X handle.
