Former Nigerian international Nwankwo Kanu has challenged Super Eagles players to give even more when representing Nigeria than they do for their respective clubs.
Softfootball understands that the former Arsenal and Ajax star made the remarks during an interview with Brila FM, where he stressed that wearing the green and white jersey is a privilege every player should cherish.
Kanu, a member of Nigeria’s gold medal-winning football team at the 1996 Summer Olympics men’s football tournament, said players must replicate their club form whenever they are called up for international duty.
The 1995 UEFA Champions League winner insisted that commitment to the national team should exceed what players give at club level, urging them to treat every appearance for Nigeria with maximum dedication.
According to Kanu, players who give their clubs 100 percent should be prepared to give 200 percent whenever they wear the Super Eagles jersey.
He also acknowledged the progress made by the team in recent matches, noting that while discussions often focus on the coaching staff, players must equally take responsibility by raising their performance levels.
Kanu added that the recent displays of the Super Eagles have shown signs of improvement and expressed optimism that the team is moving in the right direction, provided the players continue to show greater commitment and determination whenever they represent the country.
