South African giants Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly preparing to renew their interest in Nigeria international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali when the January transfer window opens.
Chiefs had previously been linked with the shot-stopper during the summer, though Nwabali instead opted to sign a new and improved three-year contract with Chippa United. Softfootball understands his form since then has caught the attention of Chiefs once again, with the 28-year-old recording four clean sheets in 11 appearances this season.
According to reports, Chiefs remain impressed with Nwabali’s performances and could look to revisit a formal approach once the window reopens next month.
The move would address a pressing need for Kwanele Kopo’s side, who have conceded the most goals in the South African top flight this season, having failed to keep a clean sheet despite rotating through three different goalkeepers.
Nwabali has continued to enhance his reputation following his impressive displays for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he played a key role in the Super Eagles’ run to the final.
His commanding presence, shot-stopping ability, and composure have made him one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in the South African league.
Should Kaizer Chiefs formalise their interest, Chippa United could face a difficult decision over the future of one of their most influential players, with Nwabali expected to attract interest from other clubs if he maintains his impressive form.
